The standard IOSH Managing Safely syllabus covers seven core modules: 
1.    Introducing Managing Safely – Importance of safety and the manager’s role
2.    Assessing Risks – What risks are and how to assess them
3.    Controlling Risks – How to implement effective controls
4.    Understanding Responsibilities – Law and compliance basics
5.    Understanding Hazards – Common workplace hazards and how to handle them
6.    Investigating Incidents – Root-cause analysis and corrective actions
7.    Measuring Performance – Monitoring, audits, and improvement
These modules incorporate real-world examples, case studies, checklists, discussions, and interactive practical work.

Assessment & Certification:


The course is assessed in two parts:

 Knowledge Test:

  •    Minimum pass criteria around 60% 

 Practical Risk Assessment:

  •   A workplace-based risk assessment project
  •   Demonstrates your ability to apply what you’ve learned.

Certification:

  •   Successful candidates receive an IOSH Managing Safely certificate
  •   The certification itself does not expire, but refresher training is recommended every 3–5 years to stay current with best practices.

Attendance plus passing both assessments is required to obtain the full certificate.
